It’s summertime on the farm, all the meat and potato grooves have been planted for the winter. So, let’s pick the crop of summertime grooves to keep us in shape, and put a smile on our face.
I’ve picked a carribean calypso for us to try…
- First of all we get our right foot(bass drum) and our left foot(hi hat) playing in unison four on the floor! 1,2,3,4. Got that? Cool.
- Now play that right hand in unison with the feet, you can take this right hand onto the snare rim, cymbal bell or cowbell 1,2,3,4 got that? Cool.
- Now the fun part… We get to calypso groove the left hand on the +a of beat 1, the + of beat 2, the + of beat 3 and the +a of beat 4
- Vary that left hand to snare rimshot or high tom for some rhythmic summer fun!
I’m off to collect that tasty soca rhythm that’s sprouting nicely for next time… ’til then, enjoy the calypso!
